Sensible flood warning and evacuation plans specific to your site
Our flood warning and evacuation plans are site specific; our extensive experience of flood risk gives us a clear understanding of hazards and identification of potential opportunities to make your site users safer during an evacuation period.
Our Flood Warning and evacuation plans can further demonstrate that the development is safe for its expected lifetime
Our flood warning and evacuation plans also take into account the following:
- The vulnerability and number of users that may require support to evacuate safely
- The assessment of flood resilience and resistance interventions including within the design of the site
- The hazard risk to the site of specific design flood events and the frequency of such events
- Evaluation of any future strategic flood defences that could benefit the site
Our Flood Warning and Evacuation Plans
Our Flood Warning and Evacuation Plans provide information which makes those living or working in your development aware of the flood hazard. It also contains procedures to enable occupants to avoid being directly exposed to flooding.
Our Flood Warning and Evacuation Plans include:
- The extent of the flood hazard levels shown by the Plan
- Definition of the flood warnings and estimated lead-in times applicable to the site
- Detailed description on how, when and by who the Plan is put into action
- Determine and establish the procedure for implementing, monitoring and maintaining the Plan
- Clear responsibilities of those participating in the Plan
- Descriptive outline of the evacuation procedure and evacuation routes away from the development and in the event that evacuation is not an option, identify the place of safe refuge
What you expect from us
- Fixed fee for our work
- Excellent communication with the local council and emergency services
- Complete walk over surveys of site
- Plan, organise and supervise relevant surveys
- Fully complaint to the Local Council standards
The evacuation and safe refuge approach
This approach should follow the following principles for it to be approved by the local council and the relevant emergency services:
- Preference is to evacuate occupants before a flood event occurs, not during an event
- Refuge within a building only when the FFL above the Flood event + CC levels
- Refuge in the building is only considered appropriated where dry access and egress from the building to an area not at risk of flooding cannot be achieved
- Evacuation should provide safe routes located above the design flood levels and avoiding flow paths
- Evacuation during a flood event should only occur if it is deemed safe by the Emergency Services only
- A ‘safe refuge’ should consist of an area that is above the design flood event level, has access to clean water and medical equipment
Our Flood Warning and evacuation plans can further demonstrate that the development is safe for its expected lifetime
